FAQ

What do you believe?

We believe in reason, compassion, justice, respect and thecreed of the Order of the Satanic Renaissance. Our strive to act with nobility in both action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom and justice being our guide.

What does Satanism mean to you?

Satan is representative of the Eternal Rebel in opposition to arbitrary authority, forever defending personal sovereignty even in the face of insurmountable odds. Satan is an icon for the unbowed will of the unsilenced inquirer – the heretic who questions sacred laws and rejects all tyrannical impositions. Our metaphoric representation is the literary Satan best exemplified by Milton and the Romantic Satanists from Blake to Shelley to Anatole France

Do you promote evil?

No.

The Order of the Satanic Renaissance believes undue suffering is bad, and that which reduces suffering is good. We do not believe in symbolic “evil.” We acknowledge blasphemy is a legitimate expression of personal independence from counter-productive traditional norms.

Do you worship Satan?

No, nor do we believe in the existence of the biblical devil.

As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry and seeking knowledge, wisdom, justice and compassion. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism or scepticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse.

How are you different from other Satanic organisations?

Many Satanic organizations focus on pointless and misguided efforts to establish a monopoly on a vision of the one ‘true’ Satanism. This obsession with ownership has fomented an unfortunate culture in which Satanism’s most vitriolic critics are often self-identified Satanists. The Order of the Satanic Renaissance is not interested in establishing itself as the sole arbiter of Satanic practice. Rather, we are open to working with other self-identified Satanic organizations to promote general recognition of Satanic religious legitimacy. We are a religious organisaion first and foremost.

How are you different from Humanists?

We share many values and ideals from humanistic philosophies and religions.

However, a unifying attribute of all Satanists is our embrace of our outsider status of the adversary. In addition, Satanists adhere to the principles of individual sovereignty and the rejection of tyrannical authority. These concerns are of paramount importance to us, but are not fundamental components of Humanism.

Do you adhere to the Satanic Bible?

The Order of the Satanic Renaissance does not adhere to the Satanic Bible.

Are there meet-ups in my state?

Are you LGBTQI+ friendly?

Yes! We are proud supporters of the LGBTQI+ community. We welcome and offer a safe and inclusive environment to individuals of all gender identities and sexual orientations. We have a zero tolerance policy on racism, homophobia and transphobia.

Do you run charity campaigns?

Yes! Using our creed to guide us in what we get involved in, being socially active and helping vulnerable members of our community is a core aspect of our organisation. We run multiple campaigns throughout the year. Please contact us if you would like to learn more and how to get involved!

Do you support a political party or are you politically active?

No, we do not support, advocate for or oppose any political party or member.

We are politically aware and socially active. Occasionally, we may weigh in if we believe certain policies or bills being introduced may be harmful to our members or the community at large.

As a religious organization, we serve the religious needs of our members, no matter who they are or how they identify. This does not mean that we are a run of the mill social justice group; activism is a necessary component to expressing and preserving our religious rights.

Our initiatives, locally and nationally, are not a catch all for every social injustice within our society but this does not hinder our members from participating in and supporting local charities (usually focusing on our most at-risk communities), and to attend their local Pride festival.

Despite participating in social activism, we are primarily a religious organization with religious practices that involve ritual and discussion of Satanic philosophy.

Non-Satanists, also endearingly referred to as “Satanist Adjacent, who join us for their interest in activism, are welcome to support our endeavours and join our facebook group, however please refrain from making any disparaging remarks in regards to our Satanic ritual practices as they are a sincere form of religious expression for many Satanists. We welcome constructive questions and discussion on the topic to help enlighten those who wish to learn more.

Do you offer any public services (such as sermons)?

The Order of the Satanic Renaissance does not proselytize, nor do we wish to have anyone succumb to religious group-think by having ministers preach from the pulpit. Modern Satanism is an individual path, one that is religious and non-theistic in nature. It demands study of the practitioner and requires independent thought. Worship is antithetical to Satanism and we worship no beings other than ourselves.

In keeping with our Satanic ideals in the pursuit of knowledge and wordly revels, our services focus on the obtainment of knowledge, strengthening critical thinking skills, interpretation of the creed and reflection of the figure of Satan in our daily lives.

Satanists do find that the practice of personal ritual to be a cathartic and worthwhile experience.

The Order of the Satanic Renaissance does host public & private events that sometimes also includes ritual.

I’m too far away to attend your events, can I still join?

As previously mentioned,The Order of the Satanic Renaissance has in person events that occur mostly in capital cities. Any locations outside of these areas, chances are that we are lacking in public interest and/or local official members to help us in coordinating an official event.

We urge interested applicants that are too far away to attend in person events to get involved with online events and to help us in develop a Satanic Community in their area so that we can possibly have an event there in the future.

Official Member Applicants that have not been able to attend our events due to distance will be asked to have an online video meeting with our ministers.

Will you grant me fame, riches, a path to the illumanati or help me sell my soul?

No, Conspiracy theories such as the Illuminati and QAnon have no real ties to Satanism. We do not believe in conspiracy theories, those often associated with the Satanic Panic of the 80’s and 90’s. Please visit Grey Faction to learn more.
